What is the meaning of 'sapphic'?

In the LGBTQ+ community, "sapphic" is a term used to describe women who experience romantic or sexual attraction to other women. The term has its roots in ancient Greece, derived from the poet Sappho, known for her passionate verses about love and desire for women. Over time, it has evolved to become an umbrella term, encompassing various sexual orientations and romantic attractions within the spectrum of women-loving-women (WLW).

This identity is inclusive, recognizing and celebrating the diversity of women's same-sex attractions. It embraces individuals who identify as lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, or with other labels within the realm of women's same-sex connections.

The term is both a cultural and historical nod to the contributions of women-loving-women throughout history. It serves as a self-identification for those who are attracted to women, providing a broad and inclusive way to express their experiences and connections within the LGBTQ+ community.
